Undergraduate Students - Fall Awards

We are fortunate to have so many wonderful team members in the SCROLL Lab! This fall, the University of South Carolina has recognized two of our undergraduate students for their outstanding efforts in conducting research in our lab.

Sara Holden is a junior undergraduate student who has worked in the SCROLL Lab for the past two years. Last spring, she completed a Magellan Journey grant project that she presented at 2025 Discover USC. Sara was just awarded another grant through the Office of Undergraduate Research (OUR), a Magellan Mini-Grant to fund her new project, "Heart Rate Variability and Emotions: Developing Case Study Profiles of Heart Rate and Emotions during Reading-Related Tasks in Children with and without Language and Literacy Problems." Congratulations, Sara, and we look forward to supporting this next phase of your work in developing case studies to describe the various profiles of our research participants.

Katie Cushman is in the senior year of her undergraduate studies. She has also worked in our SCROLL Lab for the past two years with a focus on coding emotion regulation in research study participants with DLD. Katie was awarded a Magellan Grant through the OUR and has presented her work through poster sessions entitled "Exploring Co-occurring DLD and ADHD and its Impact on Negative Emotion Frequency and Word Learning" at 2025 Discover USC and the ASHA Annual Convention in Washington, D.C. She was just chosen by the Arnold School Office of Research as the November 2025 ASPH Undergraduate Student Poster Winner. Congratulations, Katie, we are so proud to have you in our lab!
